Holiday Baking Weekend

This past weekend, my soon-to-be mother-in-law let me use her kitchen to make Christmas cookies. I was so excited!! It was the first time in over a year that I had a kitchen to myself.

In the midst of all the excitement, I bit off WAY more than I could chew. I bought ingredients for 5 or 6 different Christmas cookies, forgetting that I had other things to do this weekend besides bake. Luckily my fiancé and my mom both stepped in to tell me to can it and just enjoy myself on Sunday. I did make some fabulous items, though. Ever had Oatmeal Cream Cheese Butterscotch Bars? I found the recipe on foodnetwork.com and they were AMAZING! Very labor intensive but worth it if you like cheesecake and butterscotch.

I had a lot of fun baking this weekend, but I’m very glad I’m not doing anymore for a while. I’m really looking forward to seeing James tonight and just relaxing!

Christmas Cookie Date!!

For my upcoming holiday party, I had the massive chore of decorating Christmas cookies. Now don’t get me wrong. I love baking and I love decorating, but I was dreading this experience in particular, as I had about 100 miniature cookies shaped like Christmas trees to get through. Luckily, darling fiance James came to the rescue.

We covered the living room coffee table with paper towels, and by the glowing light of the Christmas tree, we iced 100 christmas tree cookies. It was really fun! We had the Terp’s basketball game on while this was happening, and watching them beat Notre Dame added to the festive spirit.

So next time you feel like mixing food and romance without spending a lot of cash, try decorating Christmas cookies. Sure it might not sound like his thing, but no good man turns down an opportunity to help his lady get something done when there’s sugar and basketball involved.
